Viruses

Just before her 18 month milestone, Pascale came down with Hand Foot and Mouth disease.  Her blisters were mostly inside her mouth, and this prevented her from eating or drinking much beyond a few morsels and drops.  Even jelly was refused at one stage, and no water!  She would cry with hunger and need to be held by an adult, sometimes she was very floppy and tired.  We tried to tempt her with juice and hydrolyte but sometimes had to force a syringe of liquid into her mouth along with Panadol.

Then, just as her blisters were fading and her appetite returning, another virus took hold and Pascale again had high temperatures this time with runny nose.  Combined with a reluctance / fear of sleeping in her cot it was very tiring on her carers.  Priscilla would put Pascale into the backpack and the kid would fall asleep very quickly.  Once Por Por felt so sorry for Pascale that she held the baby in her arms for a 2 hour nap (right before dinnertime).  This appears
to have helped Pascale get rid of the virus.  Now she is still cloggy and snotty, but now she puts her finger in a blocked nostril sometimes picking and rolling what she finds (!)  Poor baby is returning to an extra healthy appetite after 2 weeks of this virus.  Maybe she can have her immunisation soon?  Hopefully her sleep patterns will be less stressful...
