Today the parents went to Ikea to buy a new wardrobe for Pascale. It was time to reclaim the space occupied by a chest of drawers in the middle of the bedroom, and to re-arrange the bedroom to give space for bedside drawers to each child. By the time everything had been bought and transported and the furniture (and alarm) re-arranged to suit the new layout, it was too close to dinner time for any assembling of the wardrobe to happen. Pascale and Abigail were taken to the bath after getting dirty in the yard while Chris tidied up the room and stacked the wardrobe flatpacks safely against the wall.
After a while Pascale emerged from the bathroom and went to check on her new wardrobe. Chris told her that he couldn't set up the wardrobe now, and that it would be done tomorrow. Pascale's face dropped and she walked out of the bedroom to look at her parents' room. She was just standing next to mum's side of the bed. When Chris spotted her he noticed that her nose was wet and asked if she needed a tissue. Suddenly the floodgates opened and Pascale started sobbing. Chris tried to comfort Pascale (thinking that she had hurt herself) and she clung on tightly. She resisted being transferred to Priscilla as Chris thought that his shirt was very dirty from moving flatpacks and soil that day, but eventually she agreed to go to mum when it was suggested they go to look at the bedroom together.
Later, after Pascale had calmed down and was eating her dinner, her parents asked why she started crying before. She replied that she was sad, "where are my cupboards?"
Chris told her that she was "disappointed".
